“The hardest part is signing up.” It’s a quote we hear quite often, but why? Why does fear paralyze us all? – it’s the unknown, it’s the line in the sand. So many times in life we find that the time leading up to an event is when we are fearful but why then, in the most dangerous moment are we usually at peace?
“Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real but fear is a choice.” – Will Smith in the movie “After Earth”
Say your deathly afraid of roller coasters. If then, a friend drags you along to an amusement park you have two choices you can; find excuses and reasons not to enjoy yourself, or you can face everything and rise. You have the ability to change the way you perceive roller coasters, that doesn’t make them less dangerous, but if you can change your mindset you may enjoy them.
Fear is not real. I challenge you to lay out one fear this week and conquer it. It could be trying that new class at the gym, talking to that guy or girl, killing a spider on your own, or even riding a roller coaster. Try to coquer a fear this week, and let us know about your experience!
The biggest step is always the first one. Until next time friends!
Also, please keep in mind I am in no way referring to medical conditions such as anxiety. If you feel you suffer from any sort of mental conditions I recommend you seek professional help.
